Established in 1989, the Department of Information Engineering was the first and is still the only Information Engineering Department in Hong Kong. Our professors represent a pool of world-class researchers and internationally renowned experts in various areas of Information Engineering. They obtained their Ph.D. degrees from top universities like MIT, Berkeley, Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, and CUHK. They have published extensively in form of high-impact research papers, books and patents, receiving prestigious international awards and serving actively to local and overseas industrial and research communities. Among our 22 faculty members, there are 7 IEEE Fellows, 2 IEE Fellows, and 9 Senior Members of IEEE. The department enjoys excellent facilities and infrastructure for its teaching and research. Our well-equipped teaching and research laboratories receive dedicated support from a team of dedicated technical professionals. There are also ample resources for general computing.Excellent Research Funding
Our department has been very successful in attracting external research funding. In the past 4 academic years, we have been awarded more than 90 grants whose total value exceeds 34 million HKD. A notable example is the recent Area of Excellence award to establish the Institute of Network Coding with a total budget in excess of 100 million HKD.
