Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (Optical Communication, Quantum Computing and Wireless Systems) – (260001MC)

The Department of Information Engineering (IE) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor in strategic research areas of importance to the Department and the University. All areas related to the department’s current strengths will be considered, with preference given to: (1) optical communications and photonic systems; (2) quantum computing and quantum information technologies; and (3) wireless communications and networking systems.

Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline; (ii) a strong research track record of, or demonstrated potential for, high-impact research in one or more of the above areas, commensurate with the rank sought; (iii) a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, student mentorship, and collaborative research; and (iv) the potential or proven ability to attract external research funding.

The appointee will be expected to (a) teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to their area of expertise; (b) establish an independent, externally funded research programme; (c) supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and (d) collaborate with faculty members within CUHK and with external partners to advance research and education in their field.

Appointment(s) will normally be made on a contract basis for up to three years initially, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to a longer-term appointment or substantiation.

The Department of Information Engineering (IE) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor in the area of AI for Health and Science. We seek candidates whose research combines advances in artificial intelligence with applications to health, biomedical sciences, and scientific discovery.

 Research topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Multimodal AI, foundation models, world models, and agentic AI systems for clinical health and scientific discovery
  • AI approaches for understanding aging, disease progression, and biological systems
  • AI-enabled personalized sensing systems, predictive/preventive healthcare technologies and their clinical deployment

Applicants should have (i) a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline; (ii) outstanding accomplishments and research potential in AI for health and science, along with a proven record of collaboration with medicine and/or scientific disciplines, commensurate with the rank sought; (iii) a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching; and (iv) the potential or demonstrated ability to attract external research funding.

The Department of Information Engineering (IE) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor in the area of Embedded and Physical AI. We seek candidates who develop intelligent systems that sense, learn, communicate, and act in the physical world under real-world resource and safety constraints. Areas of interest include AI systems for autonomous and embodied robotic platforms, Internet of Things (IoT) and embedded sensing systems, and networked AI systems, with particular emphasis on systems and hardware that can be deployed in complex real-world environments.

Research topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Advanced sensing and multimodal perception systems
  • Embedded foundation models and agentic AI
  • Efficient learning for embodied intelligence
  • Networked and collaborative intelligence
  • Trustworthy physical AI
