Admission to IERG

There are various admission channels for prospective applicants from different academic backgrounds to apply for the programme:

JUPAS [JS code: JS4446]

Admission is based on the results of your Best 5 subjects with the following subject weighting.

Non-JUPAS (Year 1)
  • Local applicants who are not using the results of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) for admissions purpose will be considered as Non-JUPAS applicants.
  • Qualifications such as Associate Degree / Higher Diploma , HKALE, GCE, IB, SAT/AP and other overseas qualifications, are eligible for application.
  • Applicants should have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in the English and Chinese languages.
  • Applicants who meet specific requirements as stipulated by the University for particular qualifications (including GCE AL/International AL, IB, Cambridge Pre-U, HKALE, associate degree/higher diploma) may apply for “Admission with Advanced Standing“.
  • Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.

Non-JUPAS (Senior Year)
  • Local students who have successfully completed a local course of study leading to the qualification of associate degree / higher diploma, and attained an acceptable level of proficiency in English and Chinese languages are eligible to apply for senior year entry.
  • Normal period of study for Senior-year entrants: 2 years.
  • Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.
  • Applicants considered by the department not suitable for senior year entry will still be considered for the first year entry if deemed appropriate.

International
  • The “International Students Admissions Scheme” is for non-local applicants who:
    • require a student visa / entry permit to study in Hong Kong; or
    • are holders of a visa / entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG); or
    • are holders of a dependent visa / entry permit who were 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa / entry permit by the Director of Immigration.
Mainland
  • Mainland China students who are current Gaokao candidates (应届高考生) must apply through the National Colleges and Universities Enrolment System (全国普通高校统一招生计划). They are not eligible to apply through International Students Admissions Scheme.

Notes for Admission with Advanced Standing

  • 17-23 units from university core requirements (language courses and general education courses) can be exempted for students admitted with advanced standing so they can complete the programme in three years. The major requirement for students admitted with advanced standing is the same as those admitted to the 4-year cohort.
  • The number of units that can be exempted is mainly based on the admission channel.
