Students who wish to change their major to the Programme of Mathematics and Information Engineering (MIEG) should keep the following in mind:

General Requirements from the RES:

Students who apply for a change of major should satisfy at least one of the following minimum conditions:

• Attained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in the current academic year.
• Taken course(s) of at least 6 units with an average grade of not less than B- that would count towards the major requirements of the programme.
• His/her admission WGPA score (e.g., HKDSE) should be better than the student at the lowest decile who had been successfully admitted to our Programme in the same year that s/he was first admitted to the University.

General Requirements from the Programme:

The performance in Engineering, Mathematics, and Science courses will be taken into consideration to determine admission into the MIEG programme. Students must have demonstrated a facility with mathematics as described in Academic advice for students considering a transfer to MIEG

Specific information for students who already have their major declared:

Submit an e-Application form(s) under the CUSIS from 2 June to 27 June 2025, together with a letter stating the reason(s) for transfer, an unofficial transcript, and a copy of the HKDSE/ Gaokao result.

The Department will inform you of our decision via CUSIS from 3 July to 7 July 2025. Students are required to confirm their acceptance of the NEW major (for approval cases) from 8 July to 14 July 2025.

For successful applications, students will receive a formal approval letter from Registration and the Examinations Section (RES) confirming the change of major by late July 2025.

Specific information for students admitted under a broad-based program:

Student has to obtain a hardcopy application form at the RES counter or by sending an email request to , and submit the application form together with a letter stating reason(s) for transfer, an unofficial transcript, and a copy of the HKDSE result to the Department by 27 June 2025.

Please note that your application will be processed only after you have been assigned a major programme.

The Department will notify students of the result of their applications on 3 July by phone/email.
Successful applicants should accept the transfer between 4 July and 11 July 2025.
The Department will submit all approved application forms to RES on 14 July 2025.
