The CUHK Open Innovation Lab (OIL) is thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the CUHK Cybersecurity CTF 2024, an innovative competition designed to empower secondary students in addressing cybersecurity challenges. Taking place from October 12 to October 13, 2024, this landmark event brought together over 300 participants, featuring more than 63 teams from CUHK, 45 secondary school teams, and 8 invited teams from alumni teams from CUHK, as well as PolyU and HKUST.
The competition adopted a Jeopardy Style CTF format, immersing participants in a series of engaging cybersecurity challenges that tested their skills in critical areas like web vulnerabilities, cryptography, and reverse engineering. The atmosphere was electric, with some teams demonstrating remarkable dedication by continuing to work on problems and submit solutions well past midnight.
Following the competition, a Prize Presentation Ceremony and a problem-solutions sharing workshop were held on November 16, 2024. This event not only recognized the achievements of the participants but also facilitated valuable knowledge exchange among students and industry professionals.
The CUHK Open Innovation Lab (OIL) is a student-run initiative supported by faculty advisors, dedicated to promoting open technology and entrepreneurship among engineering students. OIL regularly organizes meetups, seminars, workshops, and hackathons to foster innovation and collaboration. The success of the Cybersecurity CTF 2024 marks a significant milestone in nurturing cybersecurity talent among young individuals, equipping them with the skills needed to navigate the complexities of an increasingly digital world.
