I joined the Faculty of Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2008, majoring in Information Engineering. People have different memories about their university life. For me, the computer labs are definitely the most unforgettable part. In CUHK, most of the computer laboratories of the faculty open the whole year except for several official holidays.
I can still remember the first time I stepped into the lab of the Department of Information Engineering. The lab is big, light, and spacious, in which about one hundred desktops are arranged line by line. Students of upper classes sit in groups, typing codes in front of monitors, while others are discussing projects and assignments. Everything in that room made me excited, and it was also the first time I felt I was an engineer.
To me, the lab is not only a place of computers but a kid’s room full of toys. With these toys, I can create new things with the knowledge I learned in classes and information I can find online, such as programs, websites and mobile applications. I spent plenty of time in the lab, searching, exploring and learning, just like I had unlimited Lego bricks to play with.
The lab is no longer a place of homework to acquire knowledge, and it also makes a perfect environment for creative works. As it does not close at night, nothing can stop us from working on our ideas. Even after my school life and start my own business, I still miss the chemical reaction of the feeling emitted from the lab in which I can focus on my work and never stop. Be creative and work hard!
