Prof. CHOW Sze Ming The paper titled "Securing Fast Learning! Ridge Regression over Encrypted Big Data" won a Best Paper Award in the 15th IEEE International Conference on Trust, Security and Privacy in Computing and Communications (TrustCom 2016). This is a joint work with a team from Wuhan University: Prof. Qian Wang and his students Shengshan Hu and Jingjun Wang, and Prof. Qin Zou.

Mr. DENG Yubin (PhD) Won the Gold Award in the HKEIA Innovation & Technology Project Competition Award 2015 with his undergraduate Final Year Project titled "Attribute based human identification".
The Chinese University of Hong Kong has been named the world's No.8 most impactful research institutions in telecommunications. The Department of Information Engineering was the only Asian institution on the Thomson Reuters list that published research papers that are the most highly cited by peers.

Prof. CHOW Sze-ming Sherman Receive the honorary title of Early Career Award by the Research Grant Council (RGC). In addition to the funding of research, twenty researchers funded under Early Career Scheme (ECS) 2013/14 have received a research grant of HK$100,000 as the award.
Prof. WONG Wing-shing Awarded the Choh-Ming Li Professor of Information Engineering (卓敏信息工程學講座教授). The award is granted by the University for an initial term of 5 years with effect from August 1, 2014. The title is consolidated efforts to meet the needs of development of the University and to recognize academic staff with distinguished scholastic performance.

Two of our Postgraduate students got awards in the 10th HK Student and Research Career Day 2013 co-organized by the Association and Computing Machinery (ACM)-HK and Microsoft Research Asia. CAI Sheng, a Year 4 Ph.D student, got the "Most popular presentation" award (voted for by participants), and CHAN Chun Lam, a Year 1 M.Phil student, was runner-up for the "Junior Research Award" (selected by the Panel).

Mr. LI Chak-man (MPhil) MPhil student supervised by Prof. Lau Wing-cheong won the Postgraduate Individual 2nd Runner-up of Professor Charles K. Kao Student Creativity Awards. His project titled "Authenticated Papers and their Applications" uses high-capacity 2D QR-codes to protect and authenticate paper-based documents and credentials. The scheme supports verification using off-the-shelf smartphones without the need of any network connection.

Bing is currently a PhD candidate in IE Department and Ding is pursuing his PhD study at UIUC now.

Mr. ZHANG Wei (PhD) PhD student supervised by Prof. Tang Xiaoou, achieved the top 9 among 40,000 data scientists in Kaggle data mining competition platform in June 2012. He took part in six competitions and won the champion in International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (ICFHR) 2012 - Arabic Writer Identification contest in April 2012.
